Do I really need a monthly subscription to see my footage?

Not necessarily. With Ubiquiti UniFi Protect systems, your footage is stored locally on a secure recorder inside your home. You own your data, and there are no required monthly camera subscription fees for local recording.

Can you integrate my alarm with my lights?

Yes. We can design smart home logic so that if an outdoor camera detects a person at night, your porch lights or floodlights can automatically turn on to help deter unwanted activity.

What happens if the power goes out?

We can install battery backups for key network and security equipment. This helps keep cameras, internet equipment, and local recording systems running during short outages or storms.

Can hackers or your technicians see my camera footage?

With systems such as Ubiquiti UniFi Protect, video footage is stored locally on a recorder inside your home. You own the data, and it does not leave your property unless you choose to share it.

I run an Airbnb or rental property in Atlanta. What are the rules for security cameras?

Short-term rental camera rules can change and should always be verified before installation. Generally, exterior cameras and video doorbells may be allowed when properly disclosed and positioned away from private areas. Indoor security cameras are restricted by many rental platforms. We can help install exterior-facing cameras, smart locks, and entry monitoring with privacy in mind.

I bought a house with an old wired security system. Do I have to rip it all out?

Not necessarily. In many cases, existing door and window sensor wiring can be reused with compatible retrofit kits or modern smart security hardware. This may save money and preserve useful wiring that is already inside the walls.

My HOA in Marietta is strict about exterior modifications. Can you still help?

Yes. We specialize in clean, discreet installations. Depending on the home, we can use low-profile cameras, careful placement under eaves, and clean wiring routes to provide coverage while keeping the finished look as subtle as possible.

What happens if the battery in my smart lock dies while I'm outside?

Most smart locks provide low-battery warnings well before the battery dies. Many also include emergency jump-start contacts or a hidden physical key option so you can still get inside if the battery is fully depleted.

Will my 70lb Golden Retriever set off the motion alarm every day?

Not if the system is designed correctly. Depending on the home and the pet, we may use pet-immune motion sensors, glass-break sensors, door and window sensors, or camera-based alerts to reduce false alarms.

How many days of video history can I keep?

Video history depends on the camera count, recording quality, recording mode, and hard drive size. With a properly designed UniFi Protect setup, many residential clients can keep weeks of continuous video history, and storage can often be expanded if more retention is needed.

Do you install traditional security systems?

The SmartHome Co. does not install traditional monitored security systems that connect directly to fire, medical, or police dispatch services, with the exception of select Ring Alarm systems. We do not install ADT, Vivint, Brinks, Alarm.com, or Honeywell Total Connect systems.
